Intro to Theatre
Semester One
By signing up for Intro to Theatre, students indicate an interest in the performing arts and a willingness to actively and cooperatively participate.
Units covered include: clowning and comedy; mime and movement; Commedia dell'Arte; group devised playbuilding.
No prerequisite or grade level required.
Assessments are 80% Practical and 20% Theory; all practical tasks have a rationale component and there will be one research assignment. Link to Syllabus here; link to handouts here.














Intermediate Theatre Arts
Semester Two
Students of Intermediate Theatre Arts wish to narrow and deepen their exploration of theatre arts; this is done both independently and with others.
Students will explore areas of Social Justice Theatre (e.g. Brecht, Boal, Fo) and its impact upon culture and politics; Realism and Stanislavski's legacy on stage and in film; staging of canonical texts in both original and 21st century styles (e.g. Shakespeare in film).
Prerequisite: Intro to Theatre Arts or equivalent.
Assessments are 70% Practical and 30% Theory; all practical tasks have a rationale component. There will be two research based tasks. Link to Syllabus here; link to handouts here.
